Trip Summary

January 4, 2015

Our 2015 Tour of Peru was a huge success as we traveled back in time to ancient civilizations to share the great artistic and cultural heritage of the Peruvian people. Our art tour of Peru was been planned to maximize the Peruvian experience, from local markets to monumental historic sites, and from the capital city of Lima to the floating islands of lake Titicaca.

We are planning to return to Peru in March 2016 with mixed media Artist/Instructor Shary Bartlett and your Host Mark Glavina.

Our 2016  tour begins with an overnight in Lima before a short flight to Cusco, where we are greeted by our local guide and taken to the town of Urubamba in the heart of the Sacred Valley.  We spend the week enjoying the people,  communities and physical beauty of the Sacred Valley as we gather inspiration for our  workshop in the comfort of our hotel lodge on the banks the Urubaba River.   From here we discover the circular terraces of Moray, the ancient salt works of Salineras, the spectacular ruins of Ollantaytambo and Pisac, as well as the Awanacancha cultural village with its traditional weaving, spice market, and wildlife.  After our visit of the Sacred Valley we board a scenic train which winds its way along the Wilcamayu River (Sacred River) to Aguas Calientes, our base for discovery of the crowning jewel of Peruvian Archaeology, Machu Picchu:  “Dwelling Place of the Gods” in the Inca Quechua language.

We then return to Cusco for a few low-key days to draw and paint the sights and streets of the colonial center, including Cathedral Santo Domingo before our return flight to Lima and back home.  If you are not quite ready to end your art holiday join Shary and me as we travel into the Amazon Jungle to take in this unique ecosystem, explore the wildlife, flora and fauna from our Amazon paradise lodge in the depth of the Jungle for 4 magical nights.   With the help of our business partners in Peru our inbound agency can organize a side excursion to Lake Titicaca and Bolivia, or a short culinary tour of Arequipa (Peru’s cuisine capital) before returning to Lima for the connecting flight home.
