Shary Bartlett is an artist and fine arts instructor living in Vancouver, Canada. She teaches Fine Arts at Langara College, has taught at Capilano University and leads mixed media workshops and retreats in Canada, the United States and internationally. Her mixed media body of work includes textured collage, encaustic, acrylic, fibre arts, prints, sculptural assemblage and altered photographs.
With a Master’s degree from Carleton University specializing in Canadian arts and cultural history, Shary has studied at Emily Carr University, Simon Fraser University, Langara College and the Universite Paul Valery in France. Shary is a 2009 creative writing graduate of Simon Fraser University’s The Writer’s Studio. She is former Chair of the International Encaustic Artists’ Western Canadian Chapter.
Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Canada. Public commissions are on display at the Vancouver Parks Board, Vancouver Public Library and the Vancouver Foundation. Shary’s work is held in private collections in Canada and the US and in the Encaustic Art Institute’s Permanent Collection.
Shary was nominated for the International Encaustic Artist’s 2014 La Vendeenne Award for Education, recognizing her contributions to raise the level of excellence in encaustic fine art through teaching.
Mark Glavina studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Capilano College and has worked as a teacher and illustrator with various contracts, including background painting for animation as well as private contracts and commissions, and has established a reputation as a muralist. In the 90’s he turned to developing his own fine art, exploring environmental and cultural issues, as well as working with the figure and portrait. Mark has been teaching and facilitating art for over 20 years, encouraging the benefits of art education for all ages, and is a pioneer of Community Public Art.
In 1997 Mark Glavina opened Phoenix Art Workshop, which has been hosting art classes both locally and abroad with his very successful and popular international art excursions.
