France is as enchanting and intriguing as all the guidebooks boast; its monuments and galleries, the gastronomic pleasures of the iconic Paris bistro, and the incomparable light of Provence and the Mediterranean. Explore one of the most historically important and beautiful locations on the world art map with Travelling Brush artist Mark Glavina and our host artist, Margot Paris.
Our artistic pilgrimage begins in Paris, a city of Museums, Galleries, and stunningly beautiful historical sites from the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe to the famous artists’ arrondissement of Montmartre and the cafés of St. Germain. Our activities include some drawing and sketching, however our Paris Pass will afford our guests the luxury of fast-track access to 60 museums and attractions including the Louvre and the Musée D’Orsay.
Our art tour continues to the south of France, following in the footsteps of modern artists who were attracted to the light and colour of the Mediterranean. Arriving in Avignon by high-speed train, our 4 days in Provence include a visit to Aix-en-Provence to stroll the cobblestone streets and visit the studio of artist Paul Cézanne, who immortalized this region in his paintings. Not to be outdone, the town of Arles awaits to share the allure of the great post impressionist painter, Vincent Van Gogh. From our hotel in Avignon we will have lots of free time to explore this important city, once the centre of the Roman Catholic Church.
Following our stay in Provence, our pilgrimage continues west to the province of Languedoc and City of Pezenas, where our host artist Margot Paris shares her adopted village, the source of inspiration for her art. With time to draw and paint in the historic streets, our private transportation also affords us the luxury of meandering from village to village, sketching and photographing along the way, soaking up the Mediterranean light, the wine, and the stunning landscapes so famously portrayed in postcards and travel brochures. With art supplies in hand we are striking distance from Sète and a host of other amazing locations.
The France portion of our art tour concludes here, with some guests choosing to return to Paris for an overnight stay before your return flight home.
For those interested in departing from Barcelona, our 5 day extension leads us from Pezenas into northern Spain, stopping in the white village of Cadaques, which clings to the coast of the Mediterranean coastline. Our drive continues to Figueres and the home of Savador Dalí where we visit the gallery bears his name and celebrates the life and work of this incredible surrealist artist. Our journey continues to the medieval city of Girona for a 3 night stay before continuing south to Barcelona to wind up our extension. Guests wanting to extend their visit here can add as many extra days in Barcelona as they wish.
