China 2009

If you have always dreamed of a painting holiday, the next trip we are organizing will be in March 2009. Join us in our adventures to the Far East as our guest artist and instructor Joseph Wong guides us in our China adventure. Our excursion begins in Shanghai, ChinaÂ’s most modern and western city and a fascinating mix of eastern and western cultures. From here, guests will step back in time as we travel to some of the most inspiring painting locations in all of China. From Shanghai our group will travel in comfort by high speed train to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province with its West Lake and unsurpassed natural beauty, immortalized by countless poets and artists. Hangzhou is one of the most important cultural centers of China. Marco Polo claimed to have passed through, calling it “beyond dispute the finest and the noblest in the world.”

The adventure continues to Huangshan or “Yellow Mountain” with its granite massif consisting of 36 separate peaks, rising above 1800 metres. Famous throughout Chinese art history, Huangshan represents the typical mountains in Chinese paintings. Our excursion then leads us further inland to Wuzhen, “The Venice of China.” With artistically inspiring scenery and ancient traditions, it is one of the most emblematic water towns in Yangtze South. From Hauangshan we travel to Wuyuan, the central transportation hub, and then to the many beautiful villages in the Jiangxi Province. Frozen in time, painting in these stunningly beautiful villages will prove to be an experience never to be forgotten.

Our painting tour winds up back in Shanghai: however, for those travelers who wish to continue we have added a (non painting) extension to Bejing, the Great Wall, and Xian and the famed Terracotta warriors. We added this portion to our adventure for those who have never been to China – these sites should not be missed. The itinerary listed above is subject to change depending on group size, dates, and hotel availability. An updated itinerary will be made available October 10th. Join us October 10th from 7:30pm – 9:00pm when we unveil the details of our 2009 painting excursion.
